Margaret Ann⁴ Smith (Elizabeth Ker³ Scarburgh, Jean² Ker, Edward¹)⁽⁶⁶⁵⁾ was born in Accomack Co, VA 2 Jan 1815.⁽⁶⁶⁶⁾ Margaret died 2 Mar 1854 at 39 years of age.⁽⁶⁶⁷⁾ She was shown as Marg't West, who died of dropsy at the age of 39 years. She was the daughter of John & Eliz. Smith, born in Acc Co, and the wife of Mtichel W. West, who gave the information. Her body was interred in General West Place, Pungoteague, Acc Co, VA.⁽⁶⁶⁸⁾

She married Gen. Mitchell Wellington West 4 Jan 1836 (bond) in Accomack Co, VA.⁽⁶⁶⁹⁾ Levin Rogers and Joseph W. Gibb were securities on the M.L.B. of Mitchell Wellington West and Margaret Ann Smith of John. They were married on 6 Jan 1836.

Mitchell was born 13 Mar 1815 in Accomack Co, VA.⁽⁶⁷⁰⁾ Mitchell⁽⁶⁷¹⁾ was the son of Mitchell Scarborough West and Margaret H. Rogers. Mitchell died 17 Jul 1899 at 84 years of age.⁽⁶⁷²⁾ His body was interred in St. George Ep Ch Cem, Pungoteague, Acc Co, VA.⁽⁶⁷³⁾

Margaret was named in her mother's will 11 Sep 1849 in Accomack Co, VA.⁽⁶⁷⁴⁾ She was shown as a daughter Margaret A. West in the will of Eliza K. Smith.

Margaret was listed with her husband in the census of 1850 in St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA.⁽⁶⁷⁵⁾ She was shown as Margaret A. West, age 35 in HH#410 headed by Mitchell W. West, a 35 year old merchant with real estate valued at $2,500.

Margaret Ann Smith and Gen. Mitchell Wellington West had the following children:

133 i. Otho Ker⁵ West⁽⁶⁷⁶⁾ was born in Hacks Neck, Acc Co, VA 26 Nov 1838.⁽⁶⁷⁷⁾ Otho died 23 Jul 1864 at 25 years of age.⁽⁶⁷⁸⁾ According to the Elmer West book, a monument to his memory is next to that of his father in St. George cemetery in Pungoteague. However, James E. Mears says his body is buried on the General West farm.

Otho was listed with his parents in the census of 1850 in St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA.⁽⁶⁷⁹⁾ He was shown as Otho K. West, age 10 in HH#410 headed by Mitchell W. West, a 35 year old merchant with real estate valued at $2,500.

Otho was listed with another family in the cenus of 1860 in Pungoteague PO, St.George Parish, Acc Co, VA.⁽⁶⁸⁰⁾ He was shown as Otho K. West, a 21 year old merchant with personal property valued at $5,000 in HH#823 headed by James P. Wooddie, age 30 and born in Richmond, VA. The rest of his family was in HH#809 headed by his father Mitchel West, a 45 year old farmer.

Otho served in the military 1861-64.⁽⁶⁸¹⁾ He was a Lieut. in the Conferate Army during the Civil War and was wounded in battle at Peterburg and died from those wounds.

+ 135 iii. Hester Jane West was born 17 Mar 1845.

+ 136 iv. John M. West was born 9 Jun 1848.

+ 137 v. Catharine S. 'Kate' West was born 1852.
