John M.⁵ West (Margaret Ann⁴ Smith, Elizabeth Ker³ Scarburgh, Jean² Ker, Edward¹)⁽¹⁰⁴⁵⁾ was born in Hacks Neck, Acc Co, VA 9 Jun 1848.⁽¹⁰⁴⁶⁾ John died 4 Apr 1892 in St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA, at 43 years of age.⁽¹⁰⁴⁷⁾ He was shown as John M. West, who died of heart disease at the age of 42 years. He was a son of Wellington M. West, born in Acc Co, a merchant and the husband of Laura West. His brother-in-law G.B. Willis gave the information. According to James E. Mears, John lived for many years in the Belle Haven section, where he died. His body was interred in Mt. Willis, Grangeville, Acc Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁴⁸⁾ His tombstone shows him as John M. West, son of Mitchell & Marg't A. West. He may have been move to Belle Haven Cemetery as his wife Olivia is buried there and he is also listed as being buried that in the N'hamp tombstone book.

He married Olivia G. Willis 16 Dec 1879 in Northampton Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁴⁹⁾ He was shown as John M. West, a 39 year old single merchant, born in Acc Co & living in N'hamp Co, the son of Mitchell W. & Margaret A. West, and she was shown as Olivia G. Willis, age 21, born & living in N'hamp Co, the daughter of Edmund L. & Joyce E. Willis. They were married by Rev. Edward Hebard.

Olivia was born 1858 in Northampton Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁵⁰⁾ Olivia⁽¹⁰⁵¹⁾ was the daughter of Edward L. Willis and Joyce Beach. Olivia died 1956 at 98 years of age.⁽¹⁰⁵²⁾ Her body was interred in Belle Haven Cem, Acc Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁵³⁾ Her tombstone shows her as Olivia W. West, wife of John Mithcell West, 1858 - 1956.

John was listed with his parents in the census of 1850 in St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁵⁴⁾ He was shown as Jno. M. West, age 2 in HH#410 headed by Mitchell W. West, a 35 year old merchant with real estate valued at $2,500.

John was listed with his father in the census of 1860 in Pungoteague PO, St.George Parish, Acc Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁵⁵⁾ He was shown as John W. West, age 12 in HH#809 headed by Mitchel M. West, a 45 year old farmer.

John was listed with his father in the census of 1870 in Locust Mount PO, St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁵⁶⁾ He was shown as John West, age 22 in HH#LM653 headed by M.W. West, a 55 year old retail merchant.

John M. West and Olivia G. Willis had the following children:

Mabel Willis⁶ West⁽¹⁰⁵⁷⁾ was born in Belle Haven, Acc Co, VA 1880.⁽¹⁰⁵⁸⁾ Mabel died 1934 at 54 years of age.⁽¹⁰⁵⁹⁾ Her body was interred in Belle Haven Cem East, Acc Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁶⁰⁾ Her tombstone shows her as Mabel West Emmett, wife of Wade Gordon Emmett. She married Wade Gordon Emmett Sr. 28 Apr 1902 in Belle Haven, Acc Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁶¹⁾ He was shown as Wade Gordon Emmett, a 29 year old teacher, born & living in Hampshire(??), WVA, the son of Jacob Henry & Elmira Emmett and she was shown as Mabel Willis West, age 21, the daughter of John Mitchell & Olivia G. West. According to James E. Mears, he was a Belle Haven bank cashier and not a native of the Eastern Shore.

Wade was born 1872 in Hampshire(??), WV.⁽¹⁰⁶²⁾ Wade⁽¹⁰⁶³⁾ was the son of Jacob Henry Emmett and Elmira (-----). Wade died 1947 at 75 years of age.⁽¹⁰⁶⁴⁾ His body was interred in Belle Haven Cem East, Acc Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁶⁵⁾ His tombstone shows him as Wade Gordon Emmett, husband of Mabel West Emmett.

187 ii. Mitchell Wellington West⁽¹⁰⁶⁶⁾ was born in Belle Haven, Acc Co, VA 1887.⁽¹⁰⁶⁷⁾ Mitchell died 1954 at 67 years of age.⁽¹⁰⁶⁸⁾ His body was interred in Belle Haven Cem, Acc Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁶⁹⁾ His tombstone shows him as M. Wellington West, 1887 - 1954. He married Alretta Senft circa 1910.⁽¹⁰⁷⁰⁾

Alretta was born circa 1890.

According to James E. Mears, he was educated at Goldey College and resided in Norfolk for many years where he was a securities broker.⁽¹⁰⁷¹⁾

188 iii. Winnie Lee West⁽¹⁰⁷²⁾ was born in Belle Haven, Acc Co, VA 1890.⁽¹⁰⁷³⁾ Winnie died 1958 at 68 years of age.⁽¹⁰⁷⁴⁾ Her body was interred in Belle Haven Cem, Acc Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁷⁵⁾ Her tombstone shows her as Winnie West Watkins, 1890 - 1958. She married B. Floyd Watkins 1903.⁽¹⁰⁷⁶⁾

B. was born 1870 in Accomack Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁷⁷⁾ B. died 1958 at 88 years of age.⁽¹⁰⁷⁸⁾ His body was interred in Belle Haven Cem, Acc Co, VA.⁽¹⁰⁷⁹⁾ His tombstone shows him as B. Floyd Watkins, 1870 - 1958.
