30. Dr. John³ Ker Sr. (Rev. George², Edward¹)⁽³⁶⁸⁾ was born in Accomack Co, VA 18 Mar 1799.⁽³⁶⁹⁾ John died 2 Jan 1847 in Philadelphia, PA, at 47 years of age.⁽³⁷⁰⁾ He died at 6 1/2 o'clock in the morning in the City of Philadelphia after a long distressing illness, at the age of 47 years, 9 months and 14 days. His body was interred in Christ Ch Cem, Eastville, N'hamp Co, VA.⁽³⁷¹⁾

He married Mary Jacob Waddey 15 May 1822 (bond) in Northampton Co, VA.⁽³⁷²⁾ He was shown as Dr. John Ker Sr. and she was shown as Mary (Jacob) Waddey, ward of John E. Nottingham who was also the security. They were married by S. Wilmer.

Mary was born 4 Oct 1805 in Northampton Co, VA.⁽³⁷³⁾ Mary⁽³⁷⁴⁾ was the daughter of John R. Waddey and Hannah O. White. Mary died 9 Nov 1846 in Eastville, N'hamp Co, VA, at 41 years of age.⁽³⁷⁵⁾ She died at 8 o'clock in the morning, age 41 years, 1 month and 5 days, at Cessford.

Her body was interred in Christ Ch Cem, Eastville, N'hamp Co, VA.⁽³⁷⁶⁾ Her tombstone shows her as Mary Jacob Ker, wife of Dr. John Ker.

John was named in a land cause 4 Mar 1801 in St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA.⁽³⁷⁷⁾ He was shown as John Ker, a son of George Ker, dec'd and a nephew of Edward Ker the younger, dec'd.

John was named as administrator of an estate 28 Oct 1822 in Accomack Co, VA.⁽³⁷⁸⁾ It was on this date that John Ker was named to settle the estate of Sarah Ker. John B. Walker & Thomas R. Joynes were the securities.

John lived 1823 in Sylvan Retreat, Pungoteague, Acc Co, VA.⁽³⁷⁹⁾ John bought land 1832 in Eastville, N'hamp Co, VA.⁽³⁸⁰⁾ He bought a tract at Eastville and built "Cessford." The land was part of Elkington, sold in 1778 by Littleton Tazewell to John Stratton.

He made a will 25 Jan 1836 in Eastville, N'hamp Co, VA.⁽³⁸¹⁾ He stated in his will that his children (not named) should be well educated, and that his business continue for the benefit of his family, left all his estate to wife Mary J. Ker during her widowhood for "well-being of my children," and named friends Nathaniel J. Winder & Montcalm Oldham extrs.

John's will was probated 8 Mar 1847 in Eastville, N'hamp Co, VA.⁽³⁸²⁾

Dr. John Ker Sr. and Mary Jacob Waddey had the following children:

+ 78 i. John⁴ Ker Jr. was born 10 Sep 1823.

+ 79 ii. Dr. George Ker was born 20 Mar 1825.

80 iii. Edward Ker⁽³⁸³⁾ was born in Northampton Co, VA 15 Mar 1827.⁽³⁸⁴⁾ He married Caroline T. 'Carrie' Rutter 16 Oct 1850 in Eastville, N'hamp Co, VA.⁽³⁸⁵⁾ He was shown as Edward Ker, son of John Ker Sr., and she was shown as Miss Caroline T. Rutter. Peter B. Smith said she was over age 21. They were married on 17 Oct 1850 by A. Weed. The John Ker Sr. Family Bible shows they were married on 19 Oct 1850 at Christ Church in Eastville, VA. The John Waddey Sr. Family Bible shows they were married on 17 Oct 1850 at Christ Church, Eastville, VA.

Caroline was born circa 1830.

Edward was listed with another family in the cenus of 1850 in Northampton Co, VA.⁽³⁸⁶⁾ He was shown as Edward Ker, age 23 in HH#222 headed by Leroy Oldham, a 31 year old merchant. This was only 2 doors from his brother and sisters in HH#220.

+ 81 iv. Sally Ker was born 13 Jan 1829.

+ 82 v. Hugh Ker was born 28 Feb 1831.

83 vi. Jacob Parker Ker⁽³⁸⁷⁾ was born in Northampton Co, VA 15 Jun 1833. Jacob died 4 Aug 1833 at less than one year of age. He died after a very severe illness of about fifty hours.

84 vii. Margaret Shepherd Ker⁽³⁸⁸⁾ was born in Northampton Co, VA 27 Jul 1835. Margaret died 1 Aug 1835 at less than one year of age.

85 viii. James Ker⁽³⁸⁹⁾ was born in Northampton Co, VA 4 Sep 1836.⁽³⁹⁰⁾ James was listed with his brother in the census of 1850 in Northampton Co, VA.⁽³⁹¹⁾ He was shown as James Ker, age 13 in HH#220 headed by George Ker, a 25 year old physican.

86 ix. Herber Ker⁽³⁹²⁾ was born in Northampton Co, VA 4 Sep 1836.⁽³⁹³⁾ He married Mary E. Kinney circa 1859.⁽³⁹⁴⁾ Mary was born circa 1836.⁽³⁹⁵⁾ Mary⁽³⁹⁶⁾ was the daughter of Margaret R. Kinney widow?.

Herber was listed with his brother in the census of 1850 in Northampton Co, VA.⁽³⁹⁷⁾ He was shown as Herber Ker, age 13 in HH#220 headed by George Ker, a 25 year old physican.

Herber was listed as a head of household in the census of 1860 in Northampton Co, VA.⁽³⁹⁸⁾ He was shown as Heber Kerr the head of HH#477, a 23 year old farmer. Listed with him were the following Kerrs: Mary E., age 24; and Marg't R. Kinney, age 43.

87 x. Severn Parker Ker⁽³⁹⁹⁾ was born in Northampton Co, VA 17 Mar 1839.⁽⁴⁰⁰⁾ Severn was listed with his brother in the census of 1850 in Northampton Co, VA.⁽⁴⁰¹⁾ He was shown as Severn P. Ker, age 11 in HH#220 headed by George Ker, a 25 year old physican.

Severn was listed with another family in the cenus of 1860 in Northampton Co, VA.⁽⁴⁰²⁾ He was shown as Severn Kerr, age 18 in HH#278 headed by Benj. I. Dalby, a 54 year old farmer.

88 xi. Abel Upshur Ker⁽⁴⁰³⁾ was born in Northampton Co, VA 25 Feb 1844.⁽⁴⁰⁴⁾ Abel was listed with his brother in the census of 1850 in Northampton Co, VA.⁽⁴⁰⁵⁾ He was shown as Abel W. Ker, age 6 in HH#220 headed by George Ker, a 25 year old physican.

Abel was listed with his brother in the census of 1860 in Northampton Co, VA.⁽⁴⁰⁶⁾ He was shown as Abel U. Kerr, age 16 in HH#264 headed by George Kerr, a 25 year old physican.
