42. Jane Oakley4 Coard (Catherine Margaret 'Peggy'3 Scarburgh, Jean2 Ker, Edward1)(484) was born in Accomack Co, VA circa 1792.(485) Jane died 1888 in Richmond, VA, at 96 years of age.(486) A useful life ended in the 96th year Mrs. Jane O. Bayly died in her home in Richmond [n.d. - @1888]. She was a young lady in the distinguished society when Napoleon lost his empire at Waterloo. She experienced the War of 1812 and the Civil War. Her busband, a leading member of society in the Jacksonion era was distinguished in law and politics. Other than her husband, Thomas H. Bayly, descendants in Richmond are the members of the E.G. Higginbotham's family of "Ravenswood." Mrs. Higginbotham was Mrs. Bayly's eldest daughter. For the last 20 years of her life, she lived at her Franklin Street residence with her grand-daughter, the wife of J.C. Brockenbrough.

She married twice. She married Col. Kendall Addison 13 Sep 1819 (bond) in Accomack Co, VA.(487) Samuel Coward and Richard D. Bayly were the securities on the M.L.B. of Kendall Addison and Miss. Jane O. Coward.

Kendall was born 7 May 1767 in Northampton Co, VA.(488) Kendall died 22 Jul 1820 at 53 years of age.(489) His body was interred in Maplewood Cem, N'hamp Co, VA.(490) She married Col. Thomas Monteagle Bayly (Esq.) 21 Dec 1826 in Northampton Co, VA.(491) This is the date shown in the tombstone book, but the marriage record shows 4 Oct 1826. Richard D. Bayly was the security on the bond. They were married by S.S. Gunter.

Thomas was born 26 Mar 1775 in Accomack Co, VA.(492) Thomas(493) was the son of Thomas Bayly and Ann Drummond. Thomas died 7 Jan 1834 at 58 years of age.(494) The tombstone book shows 7 Jan 1837, but since his will was probated on 27 Jan 1834, he must have died 7 Jan 1834.

His body was interred in Hills Farm, Hunting Creek, Acc Co, VA.(495) Tombstones shows Colonel Thomas M. Bayly, 3rd son of Colonel Thomas Bayly and Ann Drummond his wife. He was born March 26th, 1775; on the 24th March, 1809, he was married to Margaret P. Cropper, daughter of General John Cropper; on the 21st December, 1826, he was married to Jane O. Addison the widow of Colonel Kendall Addison and daughter of Samuel Coward; on the 7th January, 1837 he died. He served as a U.S. Congressman from 1813 to 1815.

Jane was named in her father's will 20 Mar 1821 in Accomack Co, VA.(496) She was named as a daughter Jane O. Addison in the will of Samuel Coward.

Jane was named as an heir of Rev War Vetran 31 Jan 1825 in Accomack Co, VA.(497) In the estate settlement of David Bowman, she was shown as Jane Coard and received £16.11.0 for her 1/7 of 1/9 of the estate of Edward Ker Jr., which went to her father Samuel Coard in right of his wife Catherine. (Note: The settlement was finally recored on 31 Jan 1825, but the actual payment may have been years earlier, as David Bowman died in 1805.)

Jane was named in her husband's will 9 Mar 1828 in Accomack Co, VA.(498)

Jane Oakley Coard and Col. Thomas Monteagle Bayly (Esq.) had the following children:

child + 98 i. Jane Oakley Addison5 Bayly was born circa 1828.

child 99 ii. Samuel T. Bayly(499) was born in Accomack Co, VA circa 1829.(500) Samuel was listed with another family in the cenus of 1850 in Albemarle Co, VA.(501) He was shown as Samuel Bayley in HH#1937 headed by Peter Wade a 45 year old carpenter. Samuel was age 21 and a student at the University of Virginia. There were a total of 21 such students in this household.

On 17 Apr 1855 Samuel T. Bayly, who was the son of Col. Thomas M. Bayly of Mount Custis near Accomac and his wife Jane Coward Addison, wrote a letter to the pension office in Washington regarding the pension of Catherine B. Cropper, widow of General John Cropper. This was three months after her death. He enclosed a paper which he said authorized him to draw the pension of Catherine Cropper. It appears that his attempt to get the pension was not fruitful. Samuel T. Bayly and his sister had already inherited property at Hill's Farm in Accomack County, which they later sold.(502)

child 100 iii. Rosa F. Bayly(503) was born in Accomack Co, VA circa 1830.
