The Will of John Brickhouse, Sr.
In the name of God Amen, I, John Brickhouse, Senior, of the County of Northampton being sick of body but of sound mind and memory blessed be God for the same. do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following: Viz. Item. I leave the use of the plantation whereon I now live with the land I purchased of William Bell to my wife during her life and also the following Negroes: Daniel. old Rachel, Luke, Sam, Joe, old Sarah, Grace and James. I give to my wife the following property to her and her heirs, viz., one riding chair, two horses, three cows and calves, ten hogs, two beds of furniture, first choice, thirty barrels of corn, one hundred bushels of oats, one yoke of oxen, first choice, one ox cart, ten bushels of peas, two ploughs and harrows half dozen window [windsor?] chairs, and half dozen flagged chairs, and one pair of tables, first choice.
Item. I give to my Grandson, John Brickhouse, the plantation whereon I live and also the land I purchased of William Bell, after the death of my wife, to him and his heirs, but in case my wife should die before my said Grandson should come to lawful age, I then give the use of the said land to my son, George Brickhouse, until that time.
Item. I give to my son, George Brickhouse, my Negroes Joe and Luke, after the death of my wife to him and his heirs.
Item. I give to my Granddaughter, Polly N. Dunton, one Negro James and Comfort and child Sarah to her and her heirs.
Item. I give to my Granddaughter Peggy Brickhouse, my Negro Sam, Grace and old Sarah to her and her heirs.
Item. I give to my Granddaughter, Sally J. Nelson, my Negroes, Ben, Rachel and child Nillty to her and her heirs.
Item. I give to my Grandson, John Brickhouse, my Negro boy, Nin, to him and his heirs.
Item. I give to my Grandson,, George Brickhouse, my Negro boy, Tadock, to him and his heirs.
Item. I give the remainder of my land to my son, George Brickhouse and his heirs, provided he pay to my Granddaughter, Peggy Parker's children the sum of eight hundred dollars.
Item. I give all the remainder of the Estate after the payment of my debts to be equally divided between my wife and son, George, to them and their heirs.
Lastly, I do hereby appoint my loving wife and my son, George Brickhouse, to be my whole and sole Executrix.
